Present status of pharmacist in Bangladesh

In Bangladesh, Medicine is the second most exported product. So, the pharmaceutical industry is very strong here. Most of the Bangladeshi pharmacists work in the pharmaceutical industry. They work in various roles such as research and development, production, quality control, quality assurance, marketing, and sales. The pharmaceutical industry in Bangladesh is growing and there are many opportunities for pharmacists to work in various companies. However, the industry still faces some challenges such as lack of proper infrastructure, lack of proper regulation, and counterfeit drugs. Many companies in the industry are also struggling to meet international quality standards.

In Bangladesh, there is a lack of hospital pharmacists in government hospitals. Almost all government hospitals do not have a dedicated graduate pharmacist. The responsibilities of dispensing medication and providing information on proper usage and potential side effects are often handled by diploma pharmacist, other healthcare professionals or by non-professional staff.

Some private hospitals do appoint hospital pharmacists. These pharmacists work closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure the safe and effective use of medication for patients. However, the number of private hospitals in Bangladesh who appoint hospital pharmacists is still limited.

Additionally, pharmacies in the country are not properly regulated. Any people can run a pharmacy shop, which can lead to issues with the quality and safety of the medication being dispensed.

Many Bangladeshi pharmacists also work in academia, teaching and conducting research in universities and colleges. They often hold faculty positions in pharmacy departments, where they are responsible for educating future pharmacists and other healthcare professionals. They also conduct research to improve the understanding of medication use, and develop new drugs and treatments.
